Spotlight on Sagittarius, 2015

November  22 – December 20

Your uniform this year:  big girl panties. Hardly exciting, right? Boy, are they going to help, though. No point ignoring them, either; this particular brand will nag you constantly to put them on already. May as well take a big breath, step into them and assume your favorite superhero pose.

Your uniform this year:  big girl panties. Hardly exciting, right? Boy, are they going to help, though. No point ignoring them, either; this particular brand will nag you constantly to put them on already. May as well take a big breath, step into them and assume your favorite superhero pose.

It’s time to suit up and take charge. Take responsibility for yourself. Take control of what you show the world. Take yourself seriously like never before. Circumstances are conspiring to support you in this. Trust them. Let home and kids fend for themselves; they can manage. Backsliding into mother hen mode would do no one favors now, least of all you.

You stand to benefit tangibly and feel fabu about yourself, to boot. Unparalleled prospects have arrived  for you to cut a wider swath through the world and pump up your worth for the long haul. You’ve got a magic formula for career and financial growth, if that’s what you want at this point in life. At a minimum, you’re in for shoring up and capitalizing on your talents, which you’ve come to value ever so much more recently.

None of this is happening with the speed you prefer. Slow and steady is the required pace; think marathon instead of sprint. You’re up to it. Hard-earned life wisdom is adding colors and textures to your natural optimism, lust for adventure and ability to see the big picture. You’ve matured from good-time gal with the great laugh into high-spirited sage with a knack for tossing truths in with the joking.

That updated skill set — and those big girl panties — will get you far, even amid challenges. Those hit critical mass in March, when mushrooming career opportunities coincide with that old urge surfacing to handle (aka sacrifice yourself for) family members’ problems. Where’s the pressure from both ends going? Straight on to you.

Keep your eye on the prize. You didn’t come through the last three years to crumble now. (Unless you really do want to retire to bed for a good long time; the cosmos can certainly arrange that.) When the pressure mounts, don’t expect the calvary. You’re the only one who can come to your aid. Grab the oxygen mask and make damned certain you’re okay before looking after anyone else, even a relative you’re certain is losing it. Check your self-talk, too. You’ll be juggling enough without internal criticism complicating the task.

As spring goes on, that slow and steady roll-out may feel like a blessing. So what if you’re riding a mule instead of a stallion? You’re heading for a destination worth working toward. Doubt that? Give a good look around in June. What you see will spur you to keep on keeping on.

Spotlight On Scorpio – 2015

Spotlight On Scorpio – 2015

October  23 - November 21    "The true bottom line is not your bank balance...it's your self-worth."

Your Spidey sense has been tingling with signals that this year could be easier than the last few. That spine-crushing pressure you’ve been enduring has lifted. You’re relaxing like never before into sharing yourself with other humans, sibs included. You’ve been piling up beaucoups of older-and-wiser cred, and you’re itching to start cashing it in.

The signals you’re picking up are right on the money.  You are indeed in for one of the most freeing and rewarding years in recent memory. And all of those signals are part of why.

The biggest growth potential comes from letting the rest of us know more of what’s going on in your head. If you can let your clutches up on that trademark privacy, more disclosure will reveal its benefits. Its increasingly tangible, yea even financial benefits. Ah. That got your attention.

You’ve got a cosmic formula for making a dream come true this year — not in your mind while you’re soaking in the tub, or driving to work, or trying to blot out the latest jolt to your body. (More on that it a sec.) But for real, tangibly, out here where you can touch and trust it.  Maybe it’s polishing your unique voice, building a podium and finding the audience. (Show of hands: Who’s got a novel on a hard drive?) Maybe it’s structuring time for vacations and art classes. Maybe it’s giving romance another whirl, even at this point in life. Whatever form the development takes, it’s been in the works for years. Capitalizing on it does not require a personality transplant. You can still hold some of your cards close. Just lay more of them on the table. The circles you run in (friends, homeowners’ associations, online groups) have people positioned to be uncommonly helpful and supportive. Take constructive criticism as sign of loyalty. Dip into your innate patience and tenacity, too. Like all enduring construction, this one takes time to build. The rollout runs from fall 2015 through early next summer.

While the concrete and paint dry on your dream, your schedule continues to be as whackadoodle as your energy levels — and, on some days, your relationship with your body. Alas, stability and certainty are just not in the stars for the foreseeable future. (Do. Not. Kill. The. Messenger.)  Your firmest intentions are no match for the twists and turns disrupting your job demands, eating and exercise habits,  and, big surprise, health. Add to that instability the anxiety, excitement, power surges or undefinable jitteriness periodically zipping through you like an electrical current. They’re motivating, irritating, and sometimes debilitating, thwarting plans like an angry kid upending a game board.

You’re no victim; nope, not you. Ante up some of that older-and-wiser cred and work it. Be who and do whatever you damn well feel like. Make life up as you go along. (Eating Paleo at breakfast and going vegan by sundown? Ain’t nobody’s business if you do.) And view those electrical impulses as an annoying but well-intended friend. Use them as fuel for speed demon productivity. Or take a time out and disperse them. (Play superhero and imagine them zooming out of your palms and feet.) Or use them as an excuse to escape something you didn’t want to do anyway (shhhhhh).

As for other blips and bumps that may lie ahead, they’re peanuts compared to what has tripped you up in recent years. The one area of concern is near and dear to your heart, which is to say, your wallet. Whether it’s tight or not. money does require extra special attention these days. The true bottom line is not your bank balance, though. It’s your self-worth. Commit to that and many issues that present as  about money will turn out to be about something else. (Mark March for this, when your radar will be more reliable than other people’s words.)

A great year ahead for you, Scorpio!

A New Experimental Treatment for Brain Fog

A New Experimental Treatment for Brain Fog

Many women say the “brain fog” of menopause feels like dementia, but an innovative psychiatrist has a different explanation.

Forgetful? Can’t focus? Many women say the “brain fog” of menopause feels like dementia, but an innovative psychiatrist has a different explanation.

First, here’s the background story, taken from this article in the Philadephia Inquirer:

“After C. Neill Epperson, a psychiatrist who directs the Penn Center for Women’s Behavioral Wellness, listened to many patients complain about their brains as they approached and entered menopause, she had an idea.

Women would tell her that they couldn’t juggle as much as they used to. They had to write something down instantly or the thought would disappear. They felt foggy and disorganized. Some worried that they had dementia.

The symptoms didn’t sound like dementia to Epperson, but they did sound like something else: attention deficit disorder.”

So Epperson tried treating them with a drug used to treat ADHD, and guess what? For many women, it worked.

Epperson attributes the decline in brain function during menopause to a drop in estrogen levels, but most women return to their baseline within a few years.

The research hasn’t been published yet, and is still in its very early stages, but the results are promising.

We at HFD will keep you posted as this develops further.

HotFlashDaily.com was created in the spirit of making every day your very best, even when you just don’t feel like it.

The site was conceived and built through the combined efforts of contributing bloggers, technicians, and impassioned women who believe the way we treat ourselves is a direct reflection of how we feel about ourselves.

We’re looking for true short stories for the website, and perhaps for inclusion in an e-book, from women who want to tell others about their experiences with peri-menopause, menopause, and beyond. We’re looking for experiences, ups/downs/unexpected highs and lows, sticky situations, “what I wish I’d known”, “what I’d tell my younger self”.. you name it!

Submissions should be first-person posts written in a blogging, editorial, or columnist style WITHOUT commercial links.
